One of the most problematic regions in the Amazon: Putumayo.
In the south of Colombia we find a region that presents its residents with major challenges every day: infrastructural problems, illegal coca cultivation, armed groups and, in addition, hardly any state presence. This difficult situation encourages violence, illegal drug production and poverty - all those factors that hinder peace-building in the country.
This is where Verdestino comes in and, together with the NGO CorpoCampo and the power of the ACAI berry, promotes not only economic but also social progress in Colombia.
Acai – A berry full of hope
The dark purple acai berry is more than just a superfood.
Rich in unsaturated fatty acids, trace elements and polyphenols, the small berry from the Amazon has become a global hype.
With its super power, this berry not only opened up health opportunities, but also a promising economic perspective in Colombia.
Only through the initiative of committed local people can we hold the PURPLE PEACE POWDER in our hands today.
CorpoCampo: Together for the people and the rainforest
In the midst of these challenges, CorpoCampo has taken on a remarkable mission. Since 2009, the NGO has been working tirelessly to protect the rainforest from deforestation while improving the lives of the people of Putumayo. Through acai palm cultivation, technical training and the promotion of sustainable farming practices, CorpoCampo has engaged over 800 families in acai production, providing them with a sustainable and legal source of income.
From vision to reality - The communities in transition
From Coca to Acai - A way out of illegal drug cultivation
For former coca farmers who have suffered under the conditions of illegal drug cultivation, the acai partnership offers a chance for a new start. Previous attempts to wipe out coca fields with glyphosate have not only resulted in health problems, but also revealed how coca farmers in this informal economy are at the mercy of violence and oppression by armed drug cartels.
Through the cooperation with CorpoCampo, these people find a real alternative from the illegal business and can earn their living in a legal way.
Empowering indigenous communities for a sustainable future
Indigenous communities face a variety of hurdles, ranging from the threat of poverty to lack of access to education and healthcare to discrimination. These communities are productive but not industrial. The cooperation with CorpoCampo enables them to collect the raw material acai wild and also to cultivate it in the future. By participating in Acai cultivation, they get an opportunity to improve their financial situation, preserve their culture and protect the rainforest as their habitat.
From war to productive community
Transitioning from a past of armed conflict presents many challenges for former rebel fighters. Many of them have had no traditional professional training and the FARC has long been financed through criminal activities.
CorpoCampo offers the former guerrilla fighters a perspective by becoming part of a productive, legal and non-violent community. These people receive support in developing new skills and cultivating their land in order to make a living in an honest and sustainable way.
